The Washington Post Names APHL a 2021 Top Washington-Area Workplace

We are excited to announce that the Association of Public Health Laboratories has been named one of The Washington Post’s 2021 Top Workplaces in the Washington, DC area. The selection is determined solely through employee feedback to an anonymous survey, which measures various aspects of workplace culture, including alignment, execution and connection.

Among the responses, APHL staff gave high marks to the organization for encouraging different points of view and a large majority—70%—reported feeling engaged or enthusiastically engaged and committed to APHL’s success. Seventy-three percent of APHL employees participated in the survey.

“We are heartened by this recognition, which is really a reflection of the extraordinary people who work here,” said Scott Becker, chief executive officer of APHL. “Especially after this challenging year where APHL staff were public health responders from the very beginning, they deserve this honor. They are the driving, dedicated and creative force that make APHL such a rewarding place to work.”

“APHL has been a pivotal partner for its member public health laboratories, especially during the pandemic response, and APHL employees are at the heart of it,” said Denise Toney, APHL president and director of the Virginia Division of Consolidated Laboratory Services. “Being recognized as a top workplace would not be possible without APHL’s outstanding staff and their commitment to service excellence.”

Now in its eighth year, The Washington Post’s Top Workplaces list highlights the businesses and organizations in the Washington-area that are leaders in company satisfaction and engagement. APHL is one of 200 other honorees this year, including government contractors, real estate firms, professional and business services, law firms and tech companies. We are humbled to be part of this stellar group.
