While public health laboratories have always strained to hire and retain quality staff, the recent infusion of American Rescue Plan funding into workforce initiatives has been transformative. With the end of that funding in sight, public health laboratories once again find themselves challenged to retain the highest performers. There is no easy answer, so in this issue’s feature article, Retention Drives Innovation: Making the Case for Public Health Laboratory Workforce Support, APHL member laboratories take their recruitment and retention work to the next level—with the assistance of APHL.
